Western New York Flash News Release

KANSAS CITY, MO - The Western New York Flash closed out its season series with FC Kansas City on Saturday night, falling 4-0 to the Blues at Swope Soccer Village. It was the Flash's second of four consecutive road games, as the club heads to Washington on Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. ET meeting with the Spirit.

Defender Leigh Ann Robinson scored the home team's first of the night, using an overlapping run to beat the Flash defense before collecting a pass from Mandy Laddish. Robinson carried the ball close to Flash goalkeeper Chantel Jones, then slotted it inside the near post to make it 1-0 in the 39th minute.

The defending NWSL Champions then added three additional goals in the second 45 minutes, while Nicole Barnhart kept the Flash off the board to secure the clean sheet.

Yael Averbuch made the game 2-0 in the 69th minute with a perfectly placed set piece goal, hitting the upper corner to beat Jones.

In the winding minutes of the match, the Blues added two additional insurance goals in a three-minute span for the 4-0 final. With the Flash pressing, Amy Rodriguez found Heather O'Reilly on a counterattack. The forward was able to use her pace and add her second goal of the year.

Jen Buczkowski closed things out in the 87th minute, finishing a cross from Frances Silva on the left side.

The Flash and Blues both totaled nine shots in the match, while the Western New York backline caught the home team offside on eight separate occasions. Both Jones and Barnhart finished with three saves in the match.

Following Wednesday's match in Washington, the Flash (5-8-3, 18 points) will close out its road trip with a game at Chicago on August 23.
