Western New York Flash News Release
ELMA, N.Y. ( Tuesday, October 21, 2014 ) - The Western New York Flash has announced its second move of the offseason, acquiring midfielder Jordan Angeli and the sixth overall pick in the 2015 NWSL College Draft for midfielder Angela Salem and defender Katherine Reynolds.
The Flash now hold the 3rd, 6th (via Washington), 7th (via Portland) and 21st picks in the 2015 College Draft.
"I'm excited to welcome Jordan to the Flash. She is an experienced player that we believe will have an immediate impact to our club and prove herself in the NWSL," said Flash general manager and head coach Aaran Lines. "I look forward to utilizing the sixth pick to add a player to our roster who can help us win a championship."
After missing the 2013 NWSL season with an ACL injury, Angeli debuted with the Spirit in 2014. The 28-year-old native of Colorado featured in 10 games for the Spirit last season, earning two starts during the year.
A teammate of Reynolds' at Santa Clara, Angeli was selected by the Boston Breakers in the 2010 WPS Draft. After a season that saw her score seven goals, the midfielder suffered a season-ending knee injury during the first game of the 2011 WPS campaign.
Salem, 26, departs Western New York after three years with the Flash. A member of the 2012 WPSL-Elite Championship team, Salem was acquired by the Flash during the 2013 NWSL Supplemental Draft. Last season, the defensive midfielder appeared in 23 games, 22 of them starts, for the Flash for a total of 1,858 minutes.
"I want to thank Angela for the dedication she showed to the club over the past three seasons," Lines said. "During her time here, Angela helped developed a great relationship with the Western New York community, especially our patrons at Sahlen Sports Park."
Reynolds, 27, was also with the Flash for the previous three campaigns. The outside back started and appeared in 22 games for Western New York during 2014 and, in 2013, the Washington State native helped the Flash backline hold opponents to a league-best 20 goals allowed.
"I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work with Katherine over the past three years," Lines added. "Katherine was an anchor to our defense and a great leader both on and off the field."
