Flash Acquire 2016 NWSL Draft No. 11 Pick and 2017 First Round Pick from Orlando Pride

December 17, 2015 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) - Western New York Flash News Release

ELMA, N.Y. - The Western New York Flash announced today that it has acquired two picks from the newest club in the National Women's Soccer League, the Orlando Pride. In the trade, the Flash receives a second-round selection (No. 11 overall) in the 2016 NWSL Draft as well as a first-round pick in the 2017 NWSL Draft from Orlando in exchange for midfielder Becky Edwards and the rights to defender Kristen Edmonds.

Western New York now owns the No. 9, No. 11, No. 14, No. 24 and No. 26 selections in the 2016 Draft. The Flash also has two First Round draft picks for what is expected to be a strong 2017 draft class.

Edwards, 27, was acquired by the Flash for the 2015 season via trade with the Houston Dash. Last year, the midfielder scored two goals and added three assists.

Edmonds, 28, joined the Flash in 2014 via discovery. In her two seasons in Western New York, the defender contributed two assists over 23 appearances and 2,589 minutes.

"I thank Becky for all she gave the club last season and wish her all the very best in the future," said Flash Head Coach Aaran Lines. "Becky was at a point in her personal life where she wanted to be in Orlando, closer to family and friends, and we were able to accommodate her desire in a trade that worked for both clubs."

"We want to thank Kristen for her hard work for the club over the past two seasons," Lines added. "We wish her the best of luck in Orlando."

2016 Flash season ticket packages are now on sale. For a limited time, fans will receive a free year of Salvatore's pizza with any season ticket order by Christmas. More information on that promotion and season ticket options can be found at wnyflash.com or by calling (716) 655-PLAY.
