
Flame Welcome NBA Commissioner David Stern to Ft. Myers with Victory

FORT MYERS, Fla., March 29 - The Florida Flame welcomed NBA Commissioner David Stern into Germain Arena with an easy 97-86 win over the Fayetteville Patriots in front of 1,981 fans in attendance. The Flame (15-29) were led by Smush Parker's double-double of 16 points and 12 assists. Tang Hamilton paced the way for the Patriots (15-28) with 18 points and 10 boards.
Florida took their first lead of the game with 8:40 remaining in the first quarter on an alley oop dunk by Smush Parker and never looked back. Carl English and Parker each recorded eight points in the quarter to give the Flame a 29-18 lead at the break.
The second quarter saw Florida extend their lead to 22 points at the 4:19 mark on a Hiram Fuller lay-up as the Flame cruised into halftime with a 20 point lead, 54-34. Florida shot 52-percent from the floor, including two of three from behind the arc, and held the Patriots to 34 first half points on 36-percent shooting.
Florida began the third period on a 12-6 run and extended their lead to 26 points on a Hiram Fuller dunk at the 6:26 mark. But Fayetteville would not go away quietly as they ended the third on a 21-11 run, closing the Flame lead to 16 points at the end of the period. David Young and Tang Hamilton combined to score 16 of the Patriots 27 points to lead the attempted comeback.
Fayetteville closed the Flame?s lead to six points on a Mike King free throw at the 1:35 mark in the fourth, but the Flame scored the final five points of the game giving them the 11 point win.
All five starters scored double-digit points for the Flame. On top of Parker's sixth double-double, Byron Mouton recorded his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Hiram Fuller posted his nineteenth double-double with 15 points and 14 boards. Carl English added 16 points, Kirk Haston scored 11, and Tim Pickett dropped in 12 for Florida.
David Young added 16 and Mike King scored 13 for the Patriots in the loss.
Florida has now won seven of their last ten games.
The two teams fill face each other again on Friday night at Germain Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
