(PORT HURON, MICH.) - After beating the Elmira Jackals, 2-1, on the road on Wednesday, the Port Huron Flags returned home to double their goal count and their winning streak in front of 1,725 fans, by a score of 4-2.

In an unusual turn of events, there were an equal number of penalties called as goals scored in the first period. The Flags defense came up strong and managed to kill all three Elmira power plays. Steve Hildenbrand lit up the scoreboard at 7:29, rebounding a shot from Ryan Markham past Jackals Goaltender Kris Tebbs. Derek Miller answered at 9:59, shooting over Noah Ruden's glove to tie the game. At 15:49, Bobby Kukulka, who scored both goals in the Flags victory Wednesday, put the Flags up 2-1 off assists from Garett Cameron and Greg Bullock. Both teams shot on goal 13 times during the period.

Craig Mahon earned his first goal of the season at 18:37 in the second, dumping the puck beyond Tebbs, with the assists credited to Bullock and Mark Cadotte. A slight scuffle broke out in front of the Elmira net, with a tenth of a second left on the clock. Jeremy Tucker and Chris Mann were each handed roughing penalties, while Mark Scott received two minutes for hooking. All three were served at the start of the third period, while Port Huron outshot Elmira, 15 to 5, in the second.

Elmira made a game of it in the third, scoring at 7:14, off the stick of Yevgeny Lazarev, who was assisted by Erik Anderson and Scott Wray. However, with only 35 seconds left in the game, Colt King stole the puck from Elmira and set up a perfect shot for Mike Olynyk, who capitalized. Chris Bogas was also credited with the assist. Port Huron's nine shots on goal were bested by Elmira's ten, but the Jackals were unable to come up with enough bite to stop the Flags. The Flags' victory improves the Port Huron-Elmira series record to 2-2-1, and gives Ruden his second consecutive professional win.

AT&T's 1st, 2nd and 3rd Stars of the Game were awarded to Kukulka, Mahon and Ruden, respectively. The Flags next home game is Saturday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m., against the Quad City Mallards.
