Port Huron Flags News Release
Port Huron, MI-The Port Huron Flags, the community owned, nonprofit member club of The United Hockey League, add goaltender Scott Hay and defenseman John Donnelly to their inaugural season roster.
Flags Head Coach Paul Willett played with both Hay and Donnelly while in Bakersfield with the ECHL Condors and is very pleased with the signings. "I know Scott and John personally," said Willett. "And I've played with them too. They are great additions to this team and I expect big things from both of them."
Hay, the 5'11", 180 pound netminder is back in the Blue Water area after having played four years in Europe in the FBNL. Prior to his stint over seas, the Scarborough, Ontario native spent time in the CHL, WCHL and OHL, including a season with The Sarnia Sting.
Hay's singing establishes the last line of defense for The Flags in the 2005-2006 inaugural season. The Flags singed Camlachie, Ontario native Jeremy Symington last month and Willett believes both have the potential to spend time in the starting spot. "Both (Symington and Hay) are experienced and solid in the net," said Willett. "I'm confident knowing we'll have two quality guys competing for the number one spot."
Defenseman John Donnelly, a Marquette Michigan native joins The Flags for what will be his third professional season. The 6'4", 205 pound former teammate of Willett's is the second northern Michigan skater on the roster this season. "He's a big guy, with great reach," said Willett. "He's good at making that first pass."
With the signings of Hay and Donnelly, The Flags now have 13 players under contract for their inaugural season, which starts October 21, 2005 with the home opener against Danbury.
