Port Huron Flags News Release
(PORT HURON, MICH.) - The Port Huron Flags played hard, but were unable to overcome the Flint Generals on Saturday at McMorran Arena, with 2,163 fans present.
The first period proved fairly uneventful, with only a handful of penalties and no goals. Mike Olynyk went to the box at 5:18 and 12:25 for hooking and interference, respectively. Robert Snowball and Flint's Nicholas Bets were called for unsportsmanlike conduct, simultaneously at 14:49. Port Huron took nine shots on goal while Flint recorded six.
Second period play livened up as the Generals took a 2 goal lead over the Flags, with both scores coming during power plays. Jan Eriksson, on an assist from Steve Roberts, scored at 11:04, while Jason Selleke sent in the puck at 13:36, with assists from Corey Laniuk and Mark Norrington. Flint had 16 shots on goal to Port Huron's nine.
The Flags made a game of it in the third, with Brad Bonello scoring at 18:26 on an assist from Jeff Cameron. Unfortunately, time ran out before the Flags could tie it up, despite a heavy last minute effort with the goalie pulled. The Flags took 10 shots on goal in the period, while Flint had four. Another pair of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties were handed to Dion Hyman and Steve Hildenbrand at 16:28.
AT&T's Three Starts of the Game were awarded to Flint's Goaltender Brian Worose, Flint's Jan Eriksson and Port Huron's Bonello. The Flags travel to New York on Friday, Oct. 20 to take on the Elmira Jackals and then face the Jackals at home on Saturday, Oct. 21.
