
Five-Run Third Sends Delmarva Past Greenville

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Delmarva Shorebirds scored five runs in the third inning to defeat the Greenville Drive, 5-0, on Wednesday night at Fluor Field in the series opener.
Delmarva managed the only runs of the game with five runs in the third. A two-RBI triple by Jaylen Ferguson, an RBI double by J.C. Encarnacion and a two-RBI single by Seamus Curran accounted for the five runs to put the road team on top 5-0.
Neither team was able to plate a run the rest of the way. Delmarva starter Dallas Litscher (1-0) earned the win, working 6.0 scoreless innings and allowing four hits with four strikeouts against two walks.
Greenville starter Brayan Bello (5-7) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits in 5.0 innings pitched with six strikeouts against no walks. After the third inning, Bello retired six of the eight batters he faced over his final two innings, including five strikeouts.
Delmarva relievers Adam Stauffer and Felix Bautista finished off the shutout, combining to throw 3.0 scoreless innings with one hit allowed and six strikeouts against four walks.
Drive relievers Yorvin Pantoja and Alex Demchak each tossed 2.0 scoreless innings. Pantoja allowed a lone hit and struck out three, while Demchak allowed two hits and struck out two with neither issuing a walk.
Kole Cottam led the Drive offense, reaching base in all four plate appearances with a single and three walks. Jordan Wren added a 2-for-4 performance, while Tyler Esplin added a double and a walk.
The two teams continue the series on Thursday with first pitch at 7:05 PM. Drive righty Alex Scherff will take on Delmarva righty Gray Fenter.
