
Claws Lose Late Lead, Fall 8-7 at Augusta

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Augusta overcame a 7-3 deficit and took the lead in the eighth on an RBI single from Andres Angulo as the GreenJackets topped the BlueClaws 8-7 on Wednesday night at SRP Park.
The loss snaps Lakewood's (16-21/45-62) four-game winning streak as the GreenJackets (23-16/59-48) took the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
Andres Angulo's RBI single in the eighth broke a 7-7 tie off Victor Santos and scored Shane Matheny with the go-ahead run. Matheny hit a two-run home run in the sixth to pull the GreenJackets within 7-5. Then in the seventh, Diego Rincones hit a two-run home run, his second of the game, to tie the game at seven.
Santos (4-8) took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, in three innings of work.
Sandro Cabrera got the last three outs for his fifth save, striking out Juan Aparicio with the tying run at first base to end the game. JJ Santa Cruz (4-1) got four outs and earned his fourth win.
McCarthy Tatum and Ben Pelletier each had two hits in the loss for the BlueClaws.
The BlueClaws got an unearned run in the first inning on a SAC fly from Tatum before Augusta scored twice in the bottom of the bottom of the first. A double-steal scored one and Jacob Gonzalez's RBI single put Augusta up 2-1.
Lakewood tied the game in the top of the third on a base hit by Abrahan Gutierrez. However, Diego Rinconces took Francisco Morales deep in the third to put Augusta back ahead 3-2.
The BlueClaws exploded for four runs in the sixth inning to take the lead. Malvin Matos, who was robbed of two hits earlier in the game, singled home the go-ahead run to put the BlueClaws up 4-3. Cole Stobbe drove in a run on a groundout before Ben Pelletier tripled home a run. With two outs, McCarthy Tatum singled home Pelletier to give the BlueClaws a 7-3 lead.
Lakewood starter Francisco Morales gave up three runs in 4.2 innings and did not factor in the decision.
Tatum drove in three runs and had two hits for Lakewood while Ben Pelletier had two hits. Malvin Matos, who entered the game with six straight two-hit games, went 1-4.
The teams continue their series on Thursday night at 7:05 pm. LHP Ethan Lindow (5-2) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Keaton Winn (5-6).
