Five Players assigned to Pioneers by af2 for 2006

Wilkes-Barre, PA- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers are pleased to announce that the first group of players have been assigned to the 2006 roster by the af2 league office earlier today.

Gerald Smith played his college career under Joe Paterno at Penn State. While in State College he recorded 46 receptions for 581 yards and one touchdown along with five carries rushing for 25 yards and one more touchdown in 30 games for the Nittany Lions. Smith was assigned as a wide receiver/defensive back.

Yaacov Yisrael played for Penn State, as well, from 2000- 2003. In 34 games he racked up 193 tackles (125 un assisted), nine tackles for loss, three sacks, five interceptions with 17 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles and a blocked kick. With his defensive capabilities, Yisreal will assume the role of a defensive specialist.

Niel Loebig served as the Duquesne quarterback from 2001 through 2004. Loebig threw 1,316 passes for 705 receptions, 10,254 yards and 103 touchdowns. He was the first student-athlete in Duquesne history to be named to the All-MAAC First Team four times. His freshman year, Loebig led his team to the ECAC Bowl against Sacred Heart in 2001. He wrapped up his career with 13 of the school's 15 passing records.

Stephen Porco ended his final season at Fordham University by being named to the Second Team All-Patriot league in 2004. In 45 games he racked up 133 receptions for 1,866 yard and 17 touchdowns. He holds numerous career records at Fordham including 4th all-time career yards and career touchdowns.

Antonio Williams was a three-year starter with the Shippensburg University Raiders. He totaled 85 tackles with 4.5 for a loss and 24 pass breakups. In 2004 alone he totaled 33 tackles (24 unassisted). He helped Shippensburg lead the PSAC in pass efficiency defense in 2003 and recorded a career-high 40 tackles.
