Greeneville Astros News Release
Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros hit five homers against the Kingsport Mets on Saturday night at Pioneer Park on their way to a 13-4 win. Ernesto Genoves, Terrell Joyce and Michael Martinez hit a homer apiece while Ariel Ovando launched two.
Greeneville's first run came on an inside-the-park homerun from Genoves to lead off the second inning. Jean Batista then hit a RBI double, the first of a three doubles for Batista on the night to tie a club record last accomplished by Houston Astros All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve in 2009. Then, Michael Martinez jacked a two-run homer to left field. Finally, Brian Blasik hit a RBI single to give the Astros a 5-0 lead.
With Genoves on base in the third inning, Ovando crushed the first of his two mammoth homers off the batter's eye in straightaway centerfield. That built the Astros lead to 7-0.
In the fourth inning, Joyce led off by hitting a solo homer. Then, with Genoves on base again, Ovando hit another two-run shot to push the Astros lead to double digits at 10-0.
The Mets, meanwhile, managed to score a run apiece on a force out in the fifth and a RBI single by Jeychol De Leon in the sixth. Then, they closed out their scoring on a two-run homerun from Julio Concepcion in the seventh.
However, the Astros would go on to add three more runs before the end of the night. Batista hit another RBI double and then a groundout scored Ovando in the sixth inning. Then, following Batista's 10th double on the year, a mark tied for the league-lead, Martinez hit a single to score Batista.
The Astros finished with 13 runs on 18 hits while the Mets were held to four runs on six hits. In addition, five Astros had at least three hits. Ovando led the way by hitting three-for-four, scoring four runs, hitting two homers and adding four RBI.
Right-hander Adrian Houser (2-2) earned the win after giving up two runs on four hits over 5.2 innings and striking out seven.
The Astros will be making their first visit of the season on Sunday to the home of an East division opponent when they take on the Burlington Royals. For more information on the Greeneville Astros, please visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
