July 3, 2014 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Butler BlueSox News Release
Butler, PA "" Five Butler BlueSox players have been voted to the 2014 Prospect League All-Star Game in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Second baseman Stephen Sada, catcher Russell Clark, outfielder Collin Massanelli, starting pitcher Dennis Lyman, and reliever Austin Ross will represent Butler as members of the East Division team in the mid-season exhibition on Tuesday, July 8.
Dennis Lyman has been one of the strongest members of a Butler pitching staff that is one of the best in the League. He has struck out 23 batters in as many innings. And has limited his opponents to just five runs over his four starts, for a 1.95 ERA.
Austin Ross leads the BlueSox relievers with 11 appearances out of the bullpen and a 1.26 ERA that is second overall on the staff among qualified pitchers. He has struck out 25 batters and walked just seven, in 21.1 innings.
Stephen Sada has appeared in 30 of 31 games for the Sox this summer, mostly in the leadoff spot. He leads the team with 117 at-bats, 33 hits, 18 runs scored, and is tied for the most stolen bases with seven.
Collin Massanelli has been one of Butler's best hitters with a .295/.352/.346 line, regardless of where he has hit in the order. He is second on the team with 14 runs scored and third with 23 hits, including two doubles and a triple. He has no errors in his time in the outfield.
Russell Clark is the second player in BlueSox history to represent the team in two All-Star Games (current hitting coach Jason Radwan appeared in 2011 and 2012). Clark is hitting .203/.278/.234 this summer with 13 hits and 5 runs driven in. He has no errors behind the plate and has once again deterred base stealers with a cannon-like arm.
This marks the fourth consecutive season that Butler has had at least five players voted to the All-Star Game. Managers, a front office representative, and a media representative from each city voted on players.
The East vs West Division contest will be held at Bob Warn Field at 7:05pm. A home run derby will precede the game at 5pm. For more information visit TheRexBaseball.com and ProspectLeague.com.
