
Fitzpatrick to Read to Plank Road Third Grade Class Tuesday

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans defenseman Rory Fitzpatrick will read to the entire third glass of Plank Road South Elementary (715 Plank Rd.) in Webster on Tuesday, June 8th. The Amerks captain is scheduled to stop by from 8:15 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. to discuss his life as a professional athlete and how reading helped him to get to where he is today.
Fitzpatrick will conclude the program by reading the infamous Z is for Zamboni, in addition to answering questions, posing for photos and signing autographs for all 70 students of the third grade class.
The 35-year-old blueliner just completed his fifth season with the Amerks, recording six assists in just 44 games in a season that sidelined him with various injuries. He also appeared in two playoff games for the Amerks. Being named the team's captain prior to the start of the 2008-09 season, Fitzpatrick tallied 14 points (4+10) that year and was also honored as team captain of the PlanetUSA All-Star at the 2008-09 AHL All-Star Classic. For his five-year career in the red, white and blue, Fitzpatrick registered 14 goals and 36 assists for 50 points in 211 total games.
During the 2001-02 season, Fitzpatrick made history as he became the first Rochester native to score a goal for the Amerks. In the playoffs, he led all Rochester defensemen in postseason points and was tied for third on the team. Fitzpatrick finished his first season with the Amerks with 12 points (4+8) in 60 games and was named the co-winner of the McCulloch Trophy for his service to the Rochester community. He also made his Buffalo Sabres debut that season, picking four PIM while appearing in five games. The veteran defenseman recorded his best season in Rochester the following year, notching 16 points (5+11) in 41 games while skating in 36 games with Buffalo.
In 287 career NHL games with Montreal, St. Louis, Nashville, Buffalo, Vancouver and Philadelphia, "Fitzy" has compiled 35 points (10+25) and six points (1+5) in 20 postseason contests. At the AHL level, Fitzpatrick has picked up 158 points (39+119) in 474 career games with Fredericton, Worcester, Hamilton, Philadelphia and Rochester.
