Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Bridgeport, Conn. - March 27, 2015 ) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of pitcher Cody Scarpetta. Scarpetta will be making his debut with the Bluefish, entering his seventh year of professional baseball and second in the Atlantic League.

"We're excited to bring Cody on board for this season," says Bluefish manager Ricky VanAsselberg. "He's a hard thrower that will add depth to our starting rotation."

Last year, the right-hander split time between Lancaster of the Atlantic League and Single-A Lynchburg (Atlanta Braves) of the Carolina League.

The 26-year-old was drafted out of high school by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 11th round of the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft. He made his debut in 2008 and spent five seasons within the Brewers organization, reaching as high as the Double-A level in 2011. After spending the 2012 campaign recovering from Tommy John surgery, Cody spent one more season with Milwaukee before he was released and signed by independent Lancaster in 2014. In June of that year, his contract was purchased by the Braves organization.

In 121 career minor league games (107 starts), Scarpetta has collected 24 wins with a 4.06 ERA and 529 strikeouts over 523.2 innings.

The Bridgeport Bluefish are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. For further information, call 203-210-BLUE (2583) or visit BridgeportBluefish.com.
