AKRON, OH - The Akron Racers were represented in the NPF Weekly Awards for the third straight week as first baseman Sam Fischer earned Offensive Player of the Week for Week 4 of the NPF season running from June 20-26.

Fischer was on fire at the plate this past week, going 5-for-15, including a double and three home runs. She also scored four runs and drove in eight RBI in four games. On Monday, June 20, Fischer helped the Racers break the game open in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI double to centerfield that scored Taylor Schlopy, before scoring herself in a four-run inning that helped turn a 0-0 tie into a 7-0 win over the Dallas Charge.

A day later, Fischer scored the first run of Akron's 10-4 win over the charge with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. Fischer added an RBI single in the sixth inning to extend the Racers lead and help the team finish their five-game road trip 4-1.

When Akron returned home to Firestone Stadium this past weekend, Fischer brought her hot bat with her. Fischer hit a three-run home run and a two-run home run in her first two at bats against the USSSA Pride on Saturday, June 25. She finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs and five RBI.

The three home runs Fischer hit lifted her to the NPF lead in home runs with six this season.

Fischer becomes the fifth Racer player to win a weekly award and the second player to win Offensive Player of the Week. Two weeks ago, third Baseman Kelley Montalvo won Offensive Player of the Week as a part of Akron sweeping the awards that week. Pitcher Jailyn Ford and shortstop Sami Fagan won Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, in that week as well.

Last week, Racer slugger Alex Hugo won Rookie of the Week after going 6-for-14 with three runs scored and three RBI in Week 3 of the season.

Akron is currently 9-8 on the season and resides in second place in the NPF standings 4.5 games behind the USSSA Pride. The Racers return home to Firestone Stadium Tuesday night, June 28, against the Pennsylvania Rebellion for a two-game series.
