(Bridgeport, Conn. - Feb. 14, 2011) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced their first additions of the 2011 season, signing pitcher Luis Gonzalez and catcher Michael Moras. Gonzalez returns to Bridgeport for his second season, while Moras will make his Park City debut.
"The Bluefish are proud to welcome back Luis and bring aboard Michael as the first signings of 2011," says Bluefish general manager Bob Goughan. "We are looking forward to the upcoming season and filling out our roster in the weeks to come."
This season will mark Gonzalez' second year in the Atlantic League and 10th of professional baseball. The lefthander posted the best season of his professional career in 2010 with the Bluefish, recording a 3.56 ERA and setting career-highs with nine wins, 88 strikeouts, 16 games started and 96 innings pitched.
The 28-year-old began his professional career with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization as a member of the Gulf Coast League Dodgers in 2001. He reached as high as the Triple-A level with Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League from 2005-07. Over 258 career minor league appearances, Luis owns a 31-28 record with a 4.12 ERA and 406 strikeouts over 445.2 innings of work.
Moras makes his Atlantic League debut with the Bluefish during his fourth year of professional baseball. The backstop spent last season in the New York Mets organization, reaching as high as Double-A Binghamton of the Eastern League.
The 25-year-old began his professional career as a member of Kingsport (A, Mets) of the Appalachian League. He impressed during his debut, batting .338 with nine RBI over the course of 20 games. The Connecticut-native has appeared in 77 career minor league games and has recorded a .253 batting average with 33 RBI and 34 runs scored.
