Tucson Toros News Release
St. George, UT - The Tucson Toros moved once step closer to clinching a playoff spot in their inaugural GBL season by defeating the Roadrunners 9-4 in St. George Tuesday. The win extends the Toros lead for first place for the second half of the season and sets up a potential playoff clinch as soon as Thursday.
Towering Lefthander Vince Davis got the start for Tucson and pitched into the 8th inning for the second straight start. David stayed hot after an 8 inning quality start in Yuma last time out, this time limiting the Roadrunners to just 3 earned runs in 7 2/3 innings while striking out 7.
First Baseman Mayobanex Santana set his season high in hits by going 4-for-5 with a double, 2 runs and an RBI. Designated Hitter Dustin Yount had 2 hits and took over the team lead in home runs with his 11th blast of the season. Yount, who drove in 3 in the contest, now has gone deep 3 times in his last 7 games. Leftfielder Curt Miaso also had 3 RBI, while 4 other Toros had multi-hit nights at the plate.
With the win Tucson increases their divisional leading in winning percentage over the Roadrunners .655 to .528. The two squads will square off for the second game of seven head-to-head games Wednesday in St. George at 7:05 Tucson time.
