BROOMBALL: The Indiana Ice moved closer to clinching the top seed in the USHL's Eastern Conference after a weekend sweep of the Green Bay Gamblers at the Resch Center in Green Bay, WI. Brian Pinho lent more than a helping hand as the forward dished out four assists while Jacob Pritchard potted two goals to top Green Bay on Friday, 5-2. Matt Roy, Tyler Pham and Scott Conway also lit the lamp and Aiden Muir chipped in with two assists. In net, Hayden Stewart tied the franchise record for consecutive wins with his tenth-straight victory. Saturday night proved to be Jason Pawloski's night as the first-year netminder stonewalled 32 shots to notch the 2-0 win and his fourth shutout of the season. The clean sheet matches the franchise record for shutouts in a season, set by Brett Bennett on the 2008-09 Clark Cup Championship season. Alex Talcott and Dwyer Tschantz provided the scoring in the win.
"PINS" POINTS: Although his point streak came to an end at seven games on Saturday, Brian Pinho has been a machine in the back stretch of the season as the first-year forward has recorded 17 points (9G, 8A) and a +12 plus-minus rating in his past 13 games. The Washington Capitals prospect has also recorded five multiple-point and two multiple-goal games during the same period.
STALWART: A pair of franchise goaltending records were matched in Green Bay this weekend as Hayden Stewart equaled a ten-game consecutive win streak set by Jon Gillies-Providence (HE) while netminding partner-in-crime Jason Pawloski tied Brett Bennett's single-season mark for shutout performances (4). Both goaltenders are getting ready for the postseason as the pair sits in the top four in GAA (2nd-Stewart-2.07, 4th-Pawloski-2.48) and top ten in wins (2nd-Pawloski-24, T-9th-Stewart-16).
"CONWAY" OR THE HIGHWAY: Ice leading-scorer Scott Conway continues on his torrid scoring pace as the forward logged a goal and an assist over the weekend to extend his scoring streak to five games. Over the stretch, the Penn State commit has recorded a staggering nine points (5G, 4A), including his first USHL hat trick last weekend against the Lincoln Stars.
A WINNING TRADITION: With eight regular-season contests remaining, Indy looks to do almost a complete rewrite as the 2013-14 squad is within striking distance of several top franchise records including most wins (39), points (84), fewest losses (15) and fewest goals allowed (166). The Ice has already tied the bar in with 18 road wins (2010-11) while setting new marks for fewest road losses (5-Four road games remaining) and shutouts in a season (7).
PLAYER ACCOUNTS: Austin Kosack (+36) and Joshua Jacobs (+31) lead all USHL defensemen in plus-minus rating...Matt Roy has three points (G, 2A) and a +4 in his past four games...Jacob Pritchard recorded three points (2G, A) in two weekend games...Tyler Andrew is riding a three-game goal streak...Andrew, Chris Martenet, Vince Pedrie and Denis Smirnov were sidelined with injuries last weekend...Affiliate forward Mitch Slattery made his USHL debut on Saturday after finishing his high school season at Hill-Murray (MN)...Tyler Pham played in his 161st game in an Ice uniform on Saturday passing John Kemp into third place on the all-time Ice games played list.
TEAM ACCESS: Indy is riding a four-game winning streak and is 12-2-1 in their last 15 games...The Ice is 24-5-7 against the Eastern Conference...Seven of Indy's eight remaining games are against potential playoff opponents (Muskegon, Dubuque, Green Bay, Chicago)...The Ice is second in the league at home on the penalty kill (89.5%) and third on the road (86.0%) and overall (87.4%)...Indy has outscored opponents 75-38 in the third period...The Ice lead the league in shots against per game (24.98) and are second in shots per game (33.88)...Indy is second in the league in goals against per game (2.35) and third in goals per game (3.77).
GETTING THE CALL: Former Iceman Paul Carey (07-08) joined the ranks of John Carlson (Washington) and Torey Krug (Boston) as the forward received the "Big Club Call" to the Colorado Avalanche last week. In 9:48 minutes of ice time over two games, the two-time NCAA Frozen Four champion recorded a +1 plus-minus rating as Colorado topped the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 on Wednesday before falling to the Anaheim Ducks 6-4 on Friday. Other former Icemen that have seen NHL action include defenseman Cameron Schilling and forward Joel Rechlicz.
