Keystone Ice Miners News Release

CONNELLSVILLE, PA - If you wiped away the first period of play in Saturday afternoon's 3-2 Keystone loss to Fairbanks, you could say the Ice Miners deserved to win. However, a dominant first period by the Ice Dogs put the Ice Miners in too deep of a hole and Fairbanks salvaged a split in the weekend series.

In a first period that saw the Ice Dogs outshoot Keystone 28-4, Jacob Hetz scored his team leading 19 and 20th goals of a season. The first one came at 7:35 when Hetz was falling to the ice but able to slide the puck inside the right post to give Fairbanks their first goal of the weekend. Hetz got his 2nd of the period at 16:28 deflecting in a pass from Chandler Madry. The score was 2-0 Fairbanks through 20 minutes.

Keystone would get on the board early in period two when Brendan Jaquay netted his fourth goal of the week, assisted by the Coleman brothers. Fairbanks regained momentum at the 11:05 mark when Hans Gorowksy scored a shorthanded goal on a breakaway after Keenan Sabatini fell down at the point. The second period ended 3-1 for the Ice Dogs.

In the 3rd, Keystone again struck early when Michael Maiden broke a long goal drought with a wrister from the right faceoff circle, assisted by Cameron Smith and Joey Sofo, and it was once again a one goal game. Despite a strong push, the Ice Miners could not find the tying goal and fell by a 3-2 final. Kevin Aldridge, playing in only his 3rd game, got the win for Fairbanks, making 32 saves. Nick Kossoff suffered the loss, making 44.

The Ice Miners next three games are all against the Johnstown Tomahawks with a single game weekend Friday at the Cambria County War Memorial. A 7:00 PM faceoff.
