Sioux Falls Storm News Release

The Sioux Falls Storm and Louisiana Swashbucklers are each at the top of their respective leagues. Both teams have dominated their leagues for the past few seasons and they now have their sights set on each other. The Storm has lost a total of three games over the past three seasons while Louisiana has lost a total of one game in the past two seasons.

The Louisiana Swashbucklers (16-0) are coming off of a dominating Intense Bowl victory over Corpus Christi 66-35, and are now looking to prove that the teams from the IFL belong with the teams from the UIF. The Storm (13-3) won their fourth consecutive UIF title on July 12 with a 40-35 victory over the Bloomington Extreme in United Bowl IV.

Swashbucklers quarterback Alvin Bartie threw for 236 yards and seven touchdowns in the Intense Bowl victory. He has played a huge part for that offense all season. He threw for 2,495 yards and 62 touchdowns during the regular season. Catching those touchdown passes are Sammy Knight and Shaun Piper. Knight had 61 receptions for 898 yards during the regular season along with 19 touchdown receptions. Piper had 46 receptions for 757 yards to go along with 19 touchdown receptions. The rules in the IFL have the linebacker basically blitzing every play, so it is a much more pass-oriented game. Louisiana led the league in scoring offense, averaging 67.6 points per game.

The Swashbuckler defense is led by Linebacker Travis Moses. He was fifth in the IFL in tackles with 61.0. He also had five sacks and three interceptions during the season. Defensive lineman John Paul Jones is a force for the defensive line. He led the league in sacks with 10 and in tackles for loss with 17.5. Defensive Back Damien Huren was tied for third in the league in interceptions with 10 on the season. The Swashbuckler defense dominated this season, allowing only 27.5 points per game. The second best defense, the Alaska Wild, allowed 43.6 points per game.
