Minnesota Thunder News Release

CHICAGO, IL. (Thursday, June 18, 2009) - The Minnesota Lightning soberly walks off the pitch with their first loss of the 2009 campaign with a 0-2 loss against first place Chicago Red Eleven. This is also the first game that the Lightning has been shut out in the 2009 campaign. Minnesota will have to shake off this loss as they head south to take on second place FC Indiana tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.

It was a disheartening start for the Lightning as they were down 2-0 within 11 minutes of play. The frustration of being down two goals so early reared its ugly head, as six caution cards were given to the Lightning and Kylie Kallman was even sent off due to a red card. On the whole, the Lightning fought hard to get back in the game but it just was not enough and they are forced to take the loss.

"After the first two goals, it was a pretty good game," said Lightning head coach Danny Strolein. "They jumped on us right at the beginning but it was a battle after that."

Tonight was the first of the two games that the Lightning plays on the road before returning to Minnesota. It is a tough road trip going into the first and second place team's stadiums. After the game against FC Indiana, the Lightning is back in Blaine for three matches. The first game of the home stretch will be the Cleveland Internationals on Saturday, June 27 at 5:05 p.m. and it is the first game in a double header with the Thunder when they face off against the Rochester Rhinos at 7:35 p.m.
