Jackson Generals News Release

Birmingham, Ala. - The Jackson Generals took an early lead, but Birmingham stormed back to take the final game of the First Half 7-2 at Regions Field Sunday afternoon. Kevin Medrano had two of Jackson's five hits, extending his hitting streak to 15 games in a game that was called in the bottom of the eighth inning due to rain.

Jackson (37-33) dropped the game, but still goes into the All-Star Break with a winning record at 37-33. The team wraps up the First Half tied for second place with Montgomery. The Generals won their final two series and six of eight going into the All-Star Break.

The Generals got off to a good start, loading the bases with nobody out in the first inning against spot-starter Scott Snodgress. Dawel Lugo drove in Colin Walsh with a groundout to make it 1-0, but that was all Jackson mustered.

Birmingham (26-43) answered right back with an RBI double from Cameron Seitzer in the bottom of the first to tie the game. Seitzer was part of a three-run rally in the second inning as well. The Barons got RBI hits from Eddy Alvarez, Jose Vinicio and Seitzer to go on top 4-1.

In the third, doubles form Colin Walsh and Kevin Medrano put two on with nobody out. Kevin Cron drove in Walsh with a sacrifice fly to right, making it 4-2. Cron finishes the half with 48 RBI and a 21-game on-base streak. Kevin Medrano had two hits, pushing his hitting streak to 15 in the loss. It is the longest hitting streak in the Southern League this season.

That was as close as Jackson got, as Birmingham added a run in the fourth inning thanks to a Jackson error. Josh Taylor (4-5, 4.80) allowed five runs (four earned) over four innings in his final start of the half. The Barons added two more against Miler Diaz in the fifth to go up 7-2.

After Diaz, Jared Miller and Yuhei Nakaushiro pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief. The game was called with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning due to rain. In total, there was more than an hour in delays Sunday as the contest was pushed back a half-hour to start as well.
