Firecats top Coyotes, 63-52

The arenafootball2 Florida Firecats improved to 5-6 on the season with a 63-52 road victory over the Central Valley Coyotes (3-8). It was the Firecats second straight win.

The Coyotes John Roberson reeled in a 45 yard score on the games first play giving Central Valley the early 7-0 lead. Florida returned the favor as James Panui scored on a 25 yard reception two plays later. Florida forced a turnover on downs and quickly scored again to take a 13-7 lead. The Fireworks continued thru the first half which saw five touchdowns scored in the final minute. Florida took a 40-34 lead into the break.

Florida finished the night with three defensive stops and scored touchdowns on their first nine possessions leading to the win. Quarterback Chris Wallace tossed five touchdowns and ran for another score. Fullback Brandon Isaiah, in his first game with the Firecats this season, ran for a pair of touchdowns and 28 yards on seven carries. Defensive back James McCoy chipped in with a kick return for a touchdown, the Firecats first of the season, and nearly returned an interception for a score but was stopped three yards shy of the endzone. Newly acquired kicker Mike Adams went seven for nine on extra point tries.

Quarterbacks Ryan O'Hara and Joe Ayoob combined to pass for 252 yards and seven touchdowns in the loss. John Roberson led the Coyotes with three touchdown receptions. The Firecats Chris McKinney led all receivers with 11 catches for 122 yards and three scores. McKinney leads the team with 27 TD receptions this season.

The Firecats are on the road again next week at the South Division leading Tennessee Valley Vipers (8-3). The Central Valley Coyotes travel cross country to take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (9-2).
