Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats officially announced the signing of DS Quincy Sorrell for the 2006 season today. Sorrell played a vital role in the 'Cats 2004 championship run leading the team with 100.5 tackles becoming the first Firecat in league history to eclipse the century mark in tackles.
"I made a mistake last year" said Quincy of playing with the Miami Morays of the National Indoor Football League. "I missed my family, I tried to make a go of it in Miami but I was playing with a bunch of guys who had never played professional football before, there just wasn't the chemistry that we had in '04."
"Q" left with af2 as the leagues all-time tackler tallying 287.5 total and 233 unassisted from 2001-2004. Sorell played with the Baton Rouge Blaze in '01 before joining Florida in 2002. By sitting out last year his record was broken by his good friend and longtime teammate Roy Stabler, who became the 1st player in league history to record 300 tackles.
"I'm not concerned about the record," Sorrell said, "the way I feel now and how hard I've been working to get ready for the season, the fans are gonna see something special this next year. I'm gonna break it again."
The Firecats also announced they will host an open tryout Saturday November 19th at Estero High School. Estero High School Field 21900 River Ranch Rd. Estero, FL 33928. Last year the team signed former Michigan State TE Marcus Waters from one of the opening tryouts.
Notes: Registration begins at 10 AM and workouts start at 11 AM. A $75.00 (Cash only) registration fee is due the day of the tryout or pre-register by calling 239-390-2287. The tryout is open for all positions and will be conducted outdoors on natural grass. Players will be required to perform in a Pro-Style Combine workout. All participants are required to bring their own shoes (outdoor cleats preferably) and other proper workout attire. Pre registering is strongly recommended.
