Firecats Sign FSU Lineman

Estero, FL-The Florida Firecats announced the signing of former Florida State lineman Brian Ross today. Ross played on both the offensive line as a Center and defensive line as a Defensive Tackle during his career for the Seminoles.

"Brian is a guy who has big game experience and tremendous athleticism" said Firecats coach Kevin Bouis, "I expect him to step in and solidify our needs at the second center position and compete for the top spot."

The 6-2 290 lb. former walk-on began his college career on the defensive line before making the switch to the Center position in 2004. As senior Ross served as a backup to Center David Castillo and saw action in a number of games including getting the start against the Gators. Prior to the game Bobby Bowden spoke highly of Ross saying "To me he is probably the quickest offensive linemen we have got, he is very smart."

Brian received the Doc Fauls Award annually given to a senior male who overcomes adversity to participate in FSU athletics. Ross missed the entire 2003 season after breaking his leg.

As a Sophomore in 2002 Ross was named "Most Dependable" Defensive Lineman and "Top Non-Scholarship Player on Defense" while backing up DT Darnell Dockett.

During his Senior year at Enloe High School in Raleigh, NC Ross was named Male Athlete of the Year. The 3 year starter played Center and Defensive Tackle and also finished No. 2 in the state in the shot put and No. 4 in the discus as a senior and also ranked No. 4 in North Carolina as a wrestler in the heavyweight class.

The Firecats will hold their next open tryout on Saturday January 21st at Estero High School At Estero High School Field - 21900 River Ranch Rd, Estero, FL 33928 at 10:00 a.m. Registration begins at 10 AM and workouts start at 11 AM. A $75.00 (Cash only) registration fee is due the day of the tryout. The tryout is open for all positions and will be conducted outdoors on natural grass. Players will be required to perform in a Prostyle Combine workout. All participants are required to bring their own shoes (outdoor cleats preferably) and other proper athletic workout attire.
