Estero, FL-The Florida Firecats followed up the signings of a few new faces with the signing of a few veterans on the 2nd day of the leagues veteran signing period. QB Chris Wallace who led the team to their best regular season record in franchise history (14-2) while passing for a team record 3501 yards and 80 TD's in the regualr season finishing with 107.25 QB Rating and WR/DB Brent Burnside who finished 3rd on the team with 539 yards and 11TD's to go along with his 36.5 tackles and 2 INT's signed contracts today to play for the Firecats in 2006.
"I wanted to sign early and show that I am committed to the organization that gave me a shot to start" said Wallace of his return for another year. "I 'm looking forward to getting in there and getting back to work." Earlier this week the Firecats announced the signing of a couple of receivers with local ties in Elgin Hicks who played with Memphis in '05 Bruce Gipson both former Charlotte High Tarpons. "We're gonna have some talent, with some of the players we got coming back mixed with some of the new guys we should be good but we gotta be better, as good as we were last year we need to get even better to get over that hump,"
The Firecats will host an open tryout Saturday, November 19th at Estero High School. Estero High School Field 21900 River Ranch Rd. Estero, FL 33928. Last year the team signed former Michigan State TE Marcus Waters from one of the opening tryouts.
Notes: Registration begins at 10 AM and workouts start at 11 AM. A $75.00 (Cash only) registration fee is due the day of the tryout or pre-register by calling 239-390-2287. The tryout is open for all positions and will be conducted outdoors on natural grass. Players will be required to perform in a Prostyle Combine workout. All participants are required to bring their own shoes (outdoor cleats preferably) and other proper workout attire. Pre registering is strongly recommended.
