Florida Firecats News Release

Estero, FL- Florida Firecats Lineman Marcus Waters has become the latest player to move to the AFL signing a 2 year contract to play for the defending National Conference Champion Orlando Predators. Waters will join former Firecats WR Javarus Dudley ('05) and Lineman John Miller ('06) in Orlando this season.

DS Corey Bailey ('06) will be playing for the New Orleans VooDoo in 2007 after leading the af2 in 2006 with 117.5 tackles in the regular season, 3rd highest in league history.

Waters joined the Firecats late in the 2005 season and continued with the team in 2006. Hampered by injuries in both seasons he registered 6.5 sacks in just 7 games displaying explosive speed from the Defensive End position.

"Marcus had a tremendous workout during our tryout camp and certainly merited a contract," Orlando Player Personnel Director Les Moss said. "He's got excellent size and strength but also ran a 4.8 in the 40 and a 4.4 in the shuttle. There's not too many lineman that size (6'5" 295lb) who can move like that."

A Sarasota, FL native, Marcus played no fewer than seven positions during his prep career at Booker High School and saw action at wide receiver, defensive end, safety, tight end, linebacker, quarterback and running back. Entering his freshman year at Michigan State ("˜99) PrepStar considered him to be "the most versatile athlete in the state of Florida" and was ranked among the South's top 12 linebackers by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Waters switched to wide receiver in 2000-- leading the Spartans in yards per reception with 17 catches for 279 yards (16.4 avg.) as a sophomore.

"It speaks volumes about our coaches and our organization when one of our guys gets the chance to move up," said Firecats President/GM Chris Vallozzi. "We've worked hard to make this an organization that people want to play for, not only because of our on the field accomplishments but because of the doors that open up as a result of our success."

The Firecats will open the 2007 season at home against the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgs, Saturday March 31st. 2007 Season tickets are available now! Call (239) 390-CATS (2287) today to reserve your seats! Visit the team online at www.FloridaFirecats.com.
