
Firecats Bouis and Wallace to be honored at YMCA National Sports Gala

Estero, FL - Florida Firecats Head Coach Kevin Bouis and quarterback Chris Wallace will be honored at the YMCA National Sports Gala on Saturday November 15th. The National Sports Gala recognizes professional and amateur athletes, coaches and administrators who have made significant contributions to the world of sports.
Bouis began his career with Florida as the Defensive Coordinator in 2002. He was named head coach in 2004 and has guided the Firecats to a 50-20 overall record in the arenafootball2 (af2) league. Defense has been the Firecats calling card every season under Kevin's leadership. Florida has surrendered an average of 39.7 points per game, among the af2's best, from 2002-2008.
Wallace has thrown for 15,137 yards and 337 touchdowns since joining the Firecats in 2004. In 2006, he became the first QB in the af2 to toss 100 touchdowns in a single season. 2008 saw Wallace set new league career records with 484 TD passes and 1,797 completions.
The list of some of the other sports figures to be recognized include tennis champion Johan Kriek, United States Olympic Committee member Dr. Fay Biles, FGCU Baseball Coach Dave Tollet, Naples High Football Coach Bill Kramer and former NFL players Don Healy, Levar Fisher, and Herman Weaver. Each honoree will be presented the National Sports Achievement Medal.
The National Sports Gala is being held at the Hilton Marco Island Beach Resort Hotel and is open to the public. Tickets are $125.00 per person and are available along with sponsor opportunities and general information by contacting Leslie Drake at the Marco Island YMCA 239-394-3144. Proceeds form the event will benefit the Marco Island YMCA.
The Florida Firecats will conduct their second open tryout Saturday January 24th at Estero High School. The tryout is open to all players and positions. Players will be required to participate in a Pro-Style combine, outdoors on natural grass. Proper workout attire is required and cleats are recommended. The tryout will begin at 11 a.m. Registration will begin at 10 a.m.
A $75 cash only registration fee is due the day of the tryout. Players are encouraged to per-register by calling the Firecats office at 239-390-CATS (2287) or by visiting the team online at www.FloridaFirecats.com
