
Firecats Add Eight Linemen to 2009 Roster

Estero, FL- The arenafootball2 (af2) Florida Firecats announced the addition of eight linemen to their 2009 training camp roster today. Combining size and athleticism, the group of newcomers tips the scales with an average height and weight of six feet five inches and 323 pounds.
"Arena Football starts up front, we made a point to get bigger on the line this season," Firecats Coach Kevin Bouis said about the players who will battle in the trenches for Florida. "We'll have a good mix of experience and young talent on both sides of the ball."
Chandler "Goose" Blakely - 6-2, 320, Stillman College; Spent 2008 playing for an indoor football team in West Virginia. Appeared in 26 games for the Stillman Tigers from 2005-2007 collecting 49 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
Larry Brown - 6-2, 289, Central Florida University; In 2006 the Jacksonville native was a member of the af2's American Conference Champion Green Bay Blizzard. During four seasons with the UCF Golden Knights he appeared in 43 games registering 128 tackles and eight sacks from 2000-2003.
Marcel Burrough - 6-6, 335, San Jose State University; Began the 2008 season with the Spokane Shock of the af2 but was later traded to Tri-Cities appearing in three games for the Fever. Burrough started 21 games at left guard while at SJSU. After his senior season with the Spartans, he was a member of the 2007 U.S. team in the third annual World Championship of American Football in Kawasaki, Japan.
Johnathan Harper - 6-3, 315, Murray State University; The Lakeland native played in nine games during the 2008 season for the af2's Mahoning Valley Thunder. Harper played center, guard and tackle while at Murray State starting 19 games for the Racers between 2003-2006.
Tim Johnson - 6-9, 390, Albany State University; A two-year starter on ASU he played for the af2's Daytona Beach Thunderbirds in 2008.
Mark Robinson - 6-3, 284, East Carolina University; A native of Longwood, Florida he started in 27 straight games for the ECU. An All-Conference USA selection as a junior, he racked up 95 tackles and 4.5 sacks during his career for the Pirates.
Christopher Sanderson - 6-7, 300, Concordia University - St Paul; Played for a pair of indoor football teams in Illinois and Minnesota in 2006. Sanderson played on the line during all four years at Concordia. He was a Northern Sun All-Conference selection in 2005 & 2004 at right tackle.
Chris Scanzano - 6-5, 290, Long Island University - CW Post; Scanzano is a rookie in the af2.
Arthur Smith - 6-7, 385, Grambling State; Smith is a rookie in the af2.
Players will report to training camp on Saturday February 28th. The Firecats can bring up to 35 players into camp. The roster must be trimmed to 22 before the start of the season. Florida opens the 2009 season at home against division rival South Georgia on March 21st.
