Firecats Acquire Three Players with Southwest Florida Roots

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats have added 3 more players to their 2007 roster, each with ties to Southwest Florida, Receiver Richard Washington, Linebacker Jason Allen and Defensive Lineman Terrance Chapman.

Washington and Allen played their high school football at Ft. Myers for the Green Wave while Chapman played for the Lehigh Lightning. Chapman and Washington would ultimately go on to be teammates at North Carolina State. Allen stayed a little closer to home playing at USF.

Jason Allen "" 6-2, 245lbs; Linebacker, played in 12 games as a senior Defensive End at USF in 2005 recording 32 tackles including 11 for a loss, 8 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery. Allen began his college career as a Sam Linebacker playing in 25 games before moving to the Defensive Line.

Terrance Chapman "" 6-3, 250lbs; Defensive Lineman, amassed 24 sacks in 2 seasons at Los Angeles Valley JC before transferring to N.C. State. Coming off the bench in 2001, he led the Wolfpack in sacks with 7 and also racked up 27 tackles including 10 for a loss. Chapman was signed by the Cleveland Browns in 2004 as an undrafted free agent however he suffered a torn ligament in his foot and was released. In 2006 he was an All-Conference 1st team selection from an indoor football league team in North Carolina after leading his conference with 13 sacks.

Richard Washington "" 5-11, 164lbs; Receiver, caught 73 passes for 848 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2 seasons at N.C. State. One of Washington's best performances includes catching a pair of TD passes in the 2003 Tangerine Bowl.

By adding the trio with Southwest Florida ties, the Firecats have now signed 4 players as a result of their 2 open tryouts so far this off-season.

The Firecats will host their final open tryout this Saturday March 3rd at Estero High School. Players will be asked to participate in a Pro-Style combine. Workout attire and cleats are recommended. The Tryout will be held outdoors and will begin at 11am. Registration begins at 10am.
