Tupelo FireAnts News Release
The Tupelo FireAnts lost to the Tennessee ThunderCats, 62-39, Saturday night at the BancorpSouth Center.
Tupelo was unable to overcome a high scoring second quarter at the hands of the T-Cats. Knoxville managed to put up 34 points in that 15-minute span alone. For the FireAnts, Damon Smith, Chris Rainey and Kevin Copper all gained TD's on the night, with Cooper pulling in two receptions in the end zone. On the defensive end of the game, Tupelo's Reggie Smith and Curtis Beals both gained touchdowns off of fumble recoveries. But, the FireAnts efforts overall were thwarted by a strong ThunderCats offense, led by QB Akili Roberson. Roberson's six touchdown passes propelled Knoxville to their eighth win of the season.
The FireAnts now stand at 4-8 overall, 1-2 in the Atlantic East division.
Looking at the Playoff Picture
All three teams in the Atlantic East division had one thing in common this past week...all three came away with losses. While losing is never a good thing, with all three falling to opponents, the FireAnts still have a chance at the playoffs.
Right now, the 'Ants must win this weekend at Alexandria along with their final home game July 6th versus the Winston-Salem Energy. Alexandria, on the other hand, must drop games, not only to the 'Ants, but also to Biloxi the following weekend. For the FireAnts, it is a win-then wait situation.
Up Next...The Rangers
The FireAnts take on the Louisiana Rangers on the road this Saturday in Alexandria, LA at 7:05pm. Don't miss out on any of the away game action. Listen to the game live on your home for FireAnts Football, WBIP 99.3FM or on the internet, www.fireantsfootball.com.
