June 23, 2002 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF)
Tupelo FireAnts News Release

The Tupelo FireAnts lost to the Tennessee ThunderCats 62-39, at the BancorpSouth Center Saturday night.

On the defensive end of the game, the 'Ants came out burning. Both Reggie Smith and Curtis Beals were able to gain touchdowns off of fumble recoveries. Damon Smith, Chris Rainey and Kevin Cooper all gained TD's on the night as well, with Cooper pulling in two markers.

'Ants QB Damon Smith, while suffering an injury in the fourth quarter, completed 3 of 6 passes for 43 yards and two touchdowns while Todd Jordan completed 9 of 18 attempts for 55 yards.

With tonight's loss, the chance for the FireAnts to make postseason play is still out there. Right now, Tupelo will make the playoffs if they win their final two games and the Louisiana Rangers fall to the Mississippi Fire Dogs.

The FireAnts travel to Alexandria, LA next Saturday in a must win game for Tupelo. The 'Ants will wrap up the 2002 NIFL regular season on home turf July 6th at the BancorpSouth Center versus the Winston-Salem Energy. For more information, call the FireAnts at 620-BITE.
