FireAnts Back On Home Turf This Saturday

Tupelo FireAnts News Release


The Tupelo FireAnts (1-6) return home this Saturday night to battle the Houma Bayou Bucks (5-3) in a rematch of the Bayou Bucks' 47-26 victory over the FireAnts at Houma on Sunday, May 4 in a contest that saw a total of five touchdowns scored on special teams and defense.

Tupelo is looking for its second Atlantic South Division victory of the season to stay in the playoff hunt while a win for Houma could give the Bayou Bucks sole possession of first place in the division. This game should be a defensive battle as the FireAnts are fifth in the league in total defense (194 yards per game) while the Bayou Bucks are third (169 yards per game). Tupelo's defense is lead by Eric Bingham, with a team-high 42 tackles, and Ricky Franklin, who has compiled 28.5 tackles in only 4 games, including a

team-high 7 tackles for a loss. Houma's defense is lead by Tim Betts (41 tackles) and Andre Reed, who has amassed 28.5 tackles, including a league-high 16.5 for a loss. The Bayou Bucks offense features former LSU quarterback Herb Tyler.
