Fire to brawl Firecats to strengthen playoff berth
July 20, 2006 - arenafootball2 (af2) - Louisville Fire News Release
Louisville, KY - The Louisville Fire (9-5) begin a crucial two week road campaign this week, against the Florida Firecats (11-3) as the Fire are looking for a win to cement their current first place ranking in the east division. Quarterback Brett Dietz will be looking to continue his outstanding play and lead his team to the post-season. Dietz will be looking to utilize his favorite target in wide receiver Rob Mager. The emergence of Dennis Fryzel and Nate Green at the wide receiver position has only increased the potency of the Fire offense. Additionally, the Fire offense includes the rushing attack of Scott Power giving a whole new dimension to this lethal squad. Some of the Fire successes are also contributed to center Will "Boom Goes the Dynamite" Rabatin who continues to excel at his position.
The "lethal-diesel" offense of the Fire will meet a Firecats team that currently has the number one spot for scoring offense in the league. The Firecats feature quarterback Chris Wallace and his ensemble of threats with wide receivers Magic Benton and Ethenic Sands. Benton and Sands currently hold the third and ninth spots respectively behind number one ranked Mager, with the Fire, in the league for reception touchdowns. The Firecats also have a rushing game of their own with the number two ranked rusher in the league in Clent Crossley.
The Fire and the Firecats are currently tied in the overall series 1-1 with the Fire prevailing 70-40 over the Firecats in their last meeting in the 2005 American Conference Championship game. Expect this game to have the feel of a playoff game with a high-octane attack by both teams as the Fire attempt to maintain their first place east division ranking and the Firecats to extend their south division lead. The Fire can clinch a playoff spot with a victory over the Firecats.
The game can be heard on 1080-AM WKJK or at louisvillefirefootball.com. The arenafootball2 league will also be broadcasting the game for free at af2.com. The Fire will be hosting at listen/watch party at Kern's Korner on Bardstown Road Saturday night with Coor's Light longnecks on special for $1.75The game will kickoff at 7:30 EST.
