Austin Turfcats News Release

Austin, TX - The Austin Turfcats are pleased today to announce that Michael Finney will work as an assistant coach with the indoor team this year. A graduate of the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, Finney was a wide receiver and returned kickoff's on a team that won the American Southwest Conference Championship and went to the Regionals in the Division III National playoffs during his tenure of 2004-2006.

Playoffs run in his blood as he served as a student coaching assistant at Copperas Cove High School during their 2007 season that resulted in becoming a 4A State Finalist, and in 2008 he served as an Assistant Coach at Vermilion Community College in Minnesota for the Ironmen where they won the Northern Minnesota Division championship.

With experience in the indoor football, Finney was Assistant Coach last spring with the Cen-Tex Barracudas in Belton, helping with receivers and defensive backs. Finney traces his love of football back to his days in Pop Warner football, something he later coached in 2002.

Turfcats Vice President/General Manager Ronald Oswalt noted, "Finney will work well with Duliban and the staff that has already been assembled. We are blessed to have such a good coaching staff."

Finney currently resides in Lampasas, Texas.

Opening day for the Turfcats is April 18 versus the Acadiana Mudbugs. Affordable sponsorship opportunities are still available to local businesses and are a great way to associate your company with a professional sports team.
