DAYTON, OH - The nominations are in and the finalists have been chosen for the Dayton Gems' first ever Beer League Night, presented by Heidelberg Distributing Company.

In early June, the Gems asked recreational hockey teams from around the nation to submit their team names and logo to find the most innovative beer league name and logo in North America.

After sifting through dozens of submissions over the past two months, the Gems have chosen six finalists. Now it is up to fans to vote for the team with the most creative name and logo. Fans can vote for their favorite jersey by visiting the Dayton Gems homepage at www.daytongems.com . The poll can be found on the right-hand side of the homepage and will remain on the website until voting ends at the end of July. Images of each jersey can be viewed by clicking on the team names.

"We would like to thank all of the teams that submitted their team name & logo for this contest. We had a tremendous response from dozens of teams in North America and we are thrilled with our list of finalists," said Gems President Joe Greene.

After a winner has been selected, the Gems will wear replica jerseys of the winning design and name during a regular season CHL game this upcoming season. In addition to wearing the team's jersey, the Gems will invite the winning Beer League Team to the game so they can play in a shootout against the MegaCity Hockey Club - a recreational team in Dayton - during the first intermission.

The idea for the event was sparked after the Gems front office read a blog post on the website Puck Daddy, a blog site by Yahoo! Sports. In the blog, editor Greg Wyshynski honored, what he felt to be, the top beer league jersey designs in the nation.

After seeing some of the ingenious ideas that teams had come up with, the Gems decided to create a contest to see what team logo and name hockey fans felt was the best.

Now that the submission period has ended and the Gems have selected a list of six finalists, it is up to the fans to decide which jersey is the best in beer league hockey.

At the end of voting, the Gems will invite the team with the winning jersey design to Dayton to watch the Gems play in the replica jerseys. After the game, all of the game worn beer league jerseys worn by Dayton Gems players will be sold in an online auction. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will go towards the charity of the beer league team's choice.

"This is an opportunity to not only honor the beer leagues of the country, but to also raise money for a charitable organization," said Greene. "Our players will actually be wearing replicas of the winning beer league team's jersey for a game, and I know they'll have a lot of fun with it.

"Our plan is to give the winning team a VIP experience with the Gems on the night of the game, complete with an opportunity to sit on the team bench for warm-ups, a tour of the Gems locker room, and a meet and greet with our players and head coach after the game."

The date of the game in which the winning beer league team will be invited to Dayton will be determined once the Gems announce their 2011-12 CHL schedule. Just as it was last year, Bud Light is the official beer of the Dayton Gems and will be available at all Dayton Gems home games.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Dayton Gems.
