FHL to Expand by Two

Federal Hockey League (FHL) is pleased to announce two new members for the 2011-2012 season. One of the teams will be located in Northern Vermont and the other in Illinois. Both new members will be holding individual team Press Conferences. The time, venue and dates for these Press Conference's will be announced shortly, and are expected to be held by the end of February.

FHL readjusts remaining schedule.
The Federal Hockey League (FHL) has decided to readjust the schedule for all its members. This is in response to what had become an extremely unbalanced schedule between the Northern division (1000 Islands, Akwesasne and Rome) and the Southern division (Cape Cod, Danbury and New York). To keep the number of games played by each team equal, the Northern division will wrap-up its regular season play on February 20. The Rome Frenzy has currently played the most games within the entire FHL with 46. This is approximately the number of regular season games the rest of the FHL will ultimately play. Since the Frenzy is out off the play-off race and they have played the equivalent of the readjusted regular season, last Saturday (February 5) has become the Frenzy's last game of 2010-2011 season. They will return next season.
The remaining 5 teams will continue to play regular season games. Akwesasne and Thousand Islands will end their regular season on February 20th and begin their best of 5 Playoff Series at Akwesasne on February 24th. The other three teams (Cape Cod, Danbury and New York) will continue to play thru March 2nd. At that time the top two teams will begin a best of 5 Playoff Series beginning on March 4th at the Highest seeded teams' home rink. The Championship Series will begin the week of March 14th at a Venue and time to be determined.

Game Result - Saturday, February 12
A's Triumph Over Whalers for 16th Win in a Row; Final score 5-1
Danbury, Connecticut -- The Aviators took to the road Saturday night in search of their sixteenth win in a row as they took on the Whalers at the Danbury Ice Arena. After an intense matchup, the A's came out victorious with a final score of 5-1 in Federal Hockey League Action.
The Aviators struck first with a powerplay goal from Michael Thomson at 7:47. A few minutes later, Chris Holmes added another to New York's total to give the A's a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
With his first goal in an Aviators' jersey, Brett Dickinson increased New York's lead to 3-0 at 2:26 in the second. However, Danbury finally got a shot past A's netminder Kevin Druce with a goal from Alex Kirschner to put the match at 3-1 at the end of the middle stanza.
Kevin Druce remained solid in the third period, not allowing any shots to creap over the line. Jesse Felten proved to be the star of the final period as he collected two powerplay goals for the A's which would eventually put the cap on the night. The Aviators collected their sixteenth win in a row by a final score of 5-1.
Kevin Druce receives the win with 37 saves on the night. Nick Niedert is given the loss although he stopped 29 of the Aviators' chances.
