Titans Win 10th Straight, Demolish Prowlers 9-2
By Zak McGinniss
DANBURY, CT -- Phil Bronner and Ryan Patsch both recorded a hat trick as the Danbury Titans rolled over the Port Huron Prowlers 9-2 on Saturday night.
The Prowlers would jump out to an early lead courtesy of Jared Hicks less than 4 minutes into the game. They would extend their lead to two with a power play goal from Scott Witmyer, but Dean Yakura would answer back for the Titans less than a minute later. The first period would end with Port Huron holding a 2-1 lead.
Danbury's Nikita Ivandikov would be perfect for the balance of the game as the Titans would explode for six goals and set a franchise record for goals in the second period. John Scorcia would tie the game on the power play only 36 seconds into the period. The momentum of the game would turn with Ryan Patsch's short handed breakaway goal at the 12:52 mark. The goal would sap the energy from the Prowlers as Danbury's offense found another gear. Bronner would score a minute and a half later, followed by 3 goals in a span of 1:02. Mike Driscoll would score the first, then Patsch would score twice in 27 seconds to complete his hat trick. After ending the first period down 2-1, the Titans would end the second up 7-2.
In the third period, Bronner would score 19 seconds in, and follow it up by completing his own hat trick with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Danbury has now scored 20 goals in their last two games, and 37 goals in their last five. With the win, Danbury extends their franchise high winning streak to 10 games, a league high for the season. Danbury also extends their franchise and league home winning streak to 11 games, stretching back to February 6th. Danbury now hits the road for a 5:00pm affair with the Dayton Demolition. The Titans next home game will be against the Demolition on Friday, March 25th, with a 7:35pm faceoff. For tickets and more information, contact the Danbury Titans by calling 844-DT-HOCKEY.
Dashers Extract Revenge with 5-3 Win over Dayton
By Lee W. Mowen
DAYTON, OHIO - After a night where Dayton took down a solid Danville Dashers team 5-2 and jumped into fourth place for the last spot in the playoffs, it was the Danville Dashers extracting some revenge against the home crew in a 5-3 win at Hara Arena.
Danville jumped out quickly in the 1st period, with an A.J. Tesoriero put-back off a loose puck. Tesoriero's first tally on the night happened at the 1:44 mark, with assists from Brian Soskin and Justin Levac. The Dashers maintained possession and continued to stall the Wrecking Crew's passing routes. Danville jumped ahead by two before the Demolition notched a goal, from Tesoriero's second score on the night at 8:27 with Brad Denney and Soskin directing traffic for the goal. After the two Dasher strikes, it was former Danville defender Myles McCauley making a difference for the Demolition. McCauley's one-timer was from Brad Townsend and Adam McKenzie, controlling the motion to the area between the points. After the first, Danville was ahead 2-1.
In the 2nd frame, Danville jumped early for the second time tonight from Justin Brausen's first blast of the game. Brausen took advantage of a bounce off St. Pierre from Cole Hutchinson's attempt. Dayton took advantage of a loose puck at the 13:36 mark, where Danville's pass flicked off of a teammate and found itself in front of a hurrying Cory Giroux. Taking the right wing and straight at the goalie, it was Giroux tallying the last goal of the 2nd on a solo mission, cutting Danville's lead back down to one at 3-2 after forty minutes.
In the 3rd, fans had to wait for more offense to shower in but were not disappointed with what was in store next. The Dashers pranced back up to a two goal lead with Brausen's second goal of the night and his 40th overall. Gehrett Sargis drove the puck before Brausen lit the lamps again at the 8:30 mark. Nearly three minutes later, it was Jacques Lamoureux scoring a Power Play goal on Dayton's fourth advantage. When Ray Tremblay went into the box for a Hooking infraction, the Demolition used up most of the time until a crashing of the crease resulted in a loose puck batted home by Lamoureux from McCauley and Martin Uhnak. With the 43rd Power Play goal of the season in the books, Dayton trailed by one heading into crunch time.
On a Justin Brausen trip penalty at 16:39 of the 3rd, Dayton went to work into a power play before Jo St. Pierre was pulled for an extra attacker. Danville's Aleh Shypitsyn clamped down on a pass, found an open Soskin ahead and nothing else in front of an open net. Then, Soskin waited for an incoming A.J. Tesoriero to approach and compile a hat trick. Danville went back up by two and won the contest 5-3.
Danville improved to 31-14-5 on the season while snapping a four game losing streak. Dayton dropped to fifth place in the FHL with the loss and Berlin's 6-3 win at home, and dropping their record to 17-26-5. The Dashers now lead the season series 9-4-2 against Dayton.
The Demolition's Myles McCauley was awarded the 3rd Star with a goal and an assist. Danville's Justin Brausen (two goals) and A.J. Tesoriero (three goals) took the top two stars in the 5-3 win over Dayton. Jo St. Pierre suffered the loss with a 24 save performance, where Dalton McGrath picked up the win with 34 shots turned away.
The red hot Danbury Titans now make their way to Hara Arena for Sunday evening, previously scheduled for December 26th. Dayton and Danbury will take the ice at 5:00 at the old hockey barn on the last night of Kids' Weekend. For tickets, broadcasting links, and event information, visit DaytonProHockey.com.
