Titans Hand Bulldogs 11-3 Shellacking
By Tommy Pecoraro
It was a night the boys in red will want to move on from, and a victory the Titans will relish all the way to puck drop tomorrow night. Danbury struck early and often, not letting up until 60 long minutes have passed.
Danbury only needed 2:05 to take the lead as Aaron Atwell scored his first as a Titan to make it 1-0. Dustin Jesseau would make it 2-0, then John Scorcia tallied a shorthanded marker to extend the lead to 3-0. Tyler Gjurich would end the period with 2 goals of his own to make it 5-0 after a single period of play. Although the Bulldogs never did regain control of the game, they had a somewhat better 2nd period, and after Dean Yakura made it 6-0 early on, Anthony LoBianco would get the Bulldogs on the board, 6-1. Again shorthanded, the Titans would score yet again as Mike Driscoll made it 7-1, and Tyler Gjurich would finish off the hat trick halfway through the period to make it 8-1. Alex Johnson would score later in the 2nd to get Brewster a second goal and make it 8-2 to finish the 2nd period. In the 3rd period, as expected, things got nasty. After a Mike Driscoll collision with James Robbins behind the Brewster net, Driscoll found himself up against Sean Maktaak for a fight in front of the Bulldogs goal. Zach Hale later on took a 5 minute penalty after giving Ryan Patsch a whack in the leg after Patsch refused to answer Hale's fight challenge. Dave Mead would come over to take on the challenge for Danbury however the linesmen quickly prevented an escalating hostility situation, and both were finished for the game. On the ensuing power play, Danbury had no mercy for Brewster, as Dean Yakura and Ryan Patsch both lit the lamp before Alex Johnson scored himself a shorthanded goal to make it 10-3. To finish things off, John Scorcia scored once more in the final minute to make it a 11-3 final score.
For Danbury, Tyler Gjurich had 3 goals and an assist, Dean Yakura had 2 goals and 5 assists, John Scorcia had 2 goals and 3 assists, Ryan Patsch had a goal and 3 assists, and Dustin Jesseau had a goal and assist. The other goals were scored by Aaron Atwell and Mike Driscoll, Bryan Dallaire, Justin Blaszak and Kory Helowka each had 2 assists. Mike Pearless stopped 23 of 26 shots for the victory. For Brewster, Alex Johnson had 2 goals and Anthony LoBianco had the other tally. Austin Lefkowitz stopped 15 of 20 shots and James Robbins stopped 38 of 44 for the loss.
These two teams meet again for a third time at the Danbury Arena tomorrow night for a 7:35 Saturday puck drop. The season series is now tied 3-3. Attendance for tonight's game was 165.
