Tri-Cities Fever News Release
CASPER, Wyo. - The Tri-Cities Fever used a big fourth quarter to pull away from the pesky Wyoming Cavalry on Friday night on its way to a 64-35 win at the Casper Events Center.
It is the Fever's fourth straight win and sixth win in its last seven games.
The Fever moves to 7-6 on the season and closes out the regular season next Saturday night at home against the Colorado Ice. Kickoff is 7:05 at the Toyota Center.
Two weeks ago, the Fever jumped out to a 55-6 halftime advantage against Wyoming (1-13) and rolled to a 94-30 win in Kennewick.
That was not the case this time around.
Wyoming closed to within a touchdown at 42-35 with 4:40 left in the third quarter and had upset on its mind. However, the Fever reeled off the game's final 22 points to pull away. It is the Fever's third win over Wyoming this season.
Keithon Flemming, who was last week's IFL offensive player of the week, made his case to earn that honor again this week.
The Fever running back rushed for a season-high 116 yards on 14 carries and five touchdowns. In the past two games, Flemming has rushed for 219 yards and eight rushing touchdowns.
He capped Friday's game with a 45-yard burst with 1:12 left in the game. It was one of seven Fever rushing touchdowns on the night. Houston Lillard and Steven Whitehead also scored on the ground.
Lillard completed 14 of 23 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns. He did throw one interception.
Steven Whitehead caught a team-high six catches for 131 yards and a touchdown. Harry Peoples and Jackie Chambers had three catches apiece.
Ed Berry, who returned from injured reserve this week, caught two passes for 28 yards.
Lionell Singleton had an interception and seven tackles in the win.
Ashante Williams had a game-high nine tackles and Brandon Rankin added a sack and four tackles-for-loss.
After Wyoming closed to within 42-35 in the third quarter, the Fever opened the fourth quarter with a score on a LIllard touchdown run to make the score 50-35. The game stayed that way until 2:20 left in the game on Flemming's 1-yard run. Just over a minute later, Flemming capped his big night with a 45-yard scoring run.
The final touchdown bookend his night, as he scored the Fever's first touchdown in a 27-yard run with 11:03 left in the first quarter.
