Fever Head to Chicago for Saturday Showdown with Sky

Indiana Fever News Release

After a tough overtime loss on Thursday night, the Fever will try to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon in Chicago. It will be the second of three meetings between the Fever and the Sky this season. Indiana prevailed 114-106 in overtime on June 11 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The Fever had won five straight and nine of their last 11 before stumbling in competitive games against the two teams with the WNBA's best records over the past week. Indiana lost 108-100 on Sunday in Minnesota, then fell to Las Vegas 86-84 in overtime on Thursday night in Indianapolis.

The Fever had several chances to win the game, but costly mistakes and clutch shotmaking from the Aces' Chelsea Gray proved to be the difference.

Indiana was up by three with the ball in the final seconds of regulation, but All-Stars Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark combined to miss three straight free throws to give Las Vegas one last chance. Gray then buried a three at the buzzer on a broken play that began with a deflected inbounds pass to force overtime.

In the extra session, the Fever had the ball up one in the closing seconds, but A'ja Wilson stole Clark's pass and Gray hit another buzzer-beating three on the other end to stun Indiana.

After the game, head coach Stephanie White said that while the ending sequences of regulation and overtime were frustrating, blame could equally be laid on other stretches of the game. The Fever surrendered 22 unanswered points to squander a 20-point lead over the end of the second and start of the third quarters and committed 22 turnovers in the loss.

The Sky are six games out of the playoffs, but have been playing better recently, winning three of their last four games, including a one-point win over the Aces on Aug. 1.

Rookie guard Sydney Taylor has been arguably Chicago's leading scorer this season, averaging 14.7 points per game, but missed the Sky's game on Wednesday with a left groin strain. 6-foot-7 center Kamilla Cardoso - a former teammate of Fever players Aliyah Boston, Raven Johnson, and Bree Hall at South Carolina - adds 14.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game for Chicago.
