Ayoob saw time in 4 games during the 2006 season including the Holiday Bowl against Texas A&M where the Bears crushed the Aggies 45-10. Coach Richard Davis is very excited about Joe joining the Fever's 2009 roster stating, "Joe is a proven starter that has won games, statistically speaking he has to be one of the best returning players in the league. I really value a guy that can lead a team without being greedy, he understands how to protect the football, and his experiences have really shaped him into an intelligent person and player. Joe was my top choice for this position and we are very fortunate to have him on board." Ayoob is the thirteenth player to be added to the 2009 Fever roster.
