Saint John Riptide News Release
Desmond Ferguson scored 15 of his 22 points down the stretch as the Manchester Millrats defeated the Halifax Rainmen 104-92.
With the win Manchester (6-3) moves into a tie with Vermont for first place in the Atlantic division. Halifax falls to 6-5 on the season.
Manchester opened the game on fire and opened a 39-23 lead early in the second quarter. Halifax responded time and again behind slick scoring guard Tony Bennett (27 points). Manchester led at the half 47-37.
Halifax tied the game late at 82-82 on two foul shots by forward Rob Sanders. But seven straight points by Ferguson put the game out of reach.
In addition to Ferguson, Manchester saw Tommy Mitchell score 15, Al Stewart 13, Scott Hazelton 11, and Alex Owumi 10. Bennett's 27 for Halifax led all scorers.
The Millrats host two games next weekend, beginning with the Buffalo Stampede on Friday night at 7:30pm, followed by Quebec at 2:30pm on Sunday.
