December 3, 2002 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
New Jersey Storm News Release

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - The New Jersey Storm travel north to Buffalo, NY on Friday, December 6 for a pre-season exhibition game against the Bandits at the HSBC Arena. The contest will mark a League first with Storm hopeful and net minder Ginny Capicchioni becoming the first female in National Lacrosse League history to step between the pipes and compete in a pre-season contest. No woman has ever played in an NLL regular season game. Capicchioni is a former nationally ranked lacrosse and field hockey goal tender from Sacred Heart University. The Oradell, NJ native was the Northeast Conference "Goalie of the Year" in lacrosse the last three seasons.

The game, which is set to face off at 7:00 p.m., marks the first time in history that the Storm and the Bandits will meet after not playing each other last year during New Jersey's inaugural season.

The two teams will play each other twice during the 2002-2003 regular season with the Bandits visiting the Continental Airlines Arena on January 19, 2003 and the Storm returning to Buffalo on April 5, 2003.

This weekend's game features two of the League's top perennial scorers, as newly acquired Storm forward and former Bandit Roy Colsey (47G, 29A in 2002) puts on the black, silver and blue for the first time and squares off against last season's eighth leading NLL scorer, Buffalo forward John Tavares (42G, 46A).

The New Jersey Storm finished strongly last year claiming victories in four of their last six contests to finish at (5-11), while averaging nearly 6,000 fans per home game. The Storm will officially open this season on the road versus the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday, December 28 at 7:35 p.m. The team opens at home on Saturday, January 4 vs. Columbus at 7:30 p.m. Eight-game and four-game season ticket plans are on sale now by calling 1-866-NJ STORM. Individual game tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster locations and the Arena box office, by calling 201-507-8900, or by logging on to Ticketmaster.com.
