FCE Match Preview vs. New York Cosmos
October 10, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton (7-4-5) kick-off the final road trip of the North American Soccer League (NASL) regular season, travelling to New York to face the Cosmos (7-6-4), Oct. 11 at 3:00 p.m. MT at James M. Shuart Stadium. With a victory, the Eddies could leapfrog back into a postseason spot.
The Eddies are coming off a 2-0 defeat at the hands of league-leading Ottawa Fury FC and will be looking to jump back into the win column and earn a crucial three points as the regular season winds down. The team will be without the services of Hanson Boakai, Sainey Nyassi and Lance Laing, who will all suit up for national duties with their respective countries. While they will lose a trio of players, the Eddies will also see the return of Cristian Raudales from suspension. Brazilian Thiago de Freitas and teammate Tomi Ameobi will likely see increased minutes as they continue to reach full fitness after returning from injuries.
The Cosmos will be playing their third game of the week after a pair of fixtures against Atlanta Silverbacks, Aug. 4 and 7. The two teams battled to a 1-1 draw in their weekend match before New York overwhelmed their opponents on Wednesday evening with a 3-0 victory. With an automatic berth in The Championship already secured as a result of winning the league's 10-match Spring Season, it is unclear whether the Eddies will come face-to-face with Cosmos superstar Raúl for the second time this season. The Spanish Legend has not suited up for two of the Cosmos' past three contests, including their match versus the Eddies two weeks ago.
Edmonton recently welcomed Cosmos to Clarke Field on Sept. 27, where an impressive team performance earned the home side a 2-1 victory off of goals from Daryl Fordyce and Lance Laing. Earlier in 2015, New York captured a 4-2 win over the Eddies in New York en route to their Spring Season Championship.
"New York rested some players against us [last time we played each other]," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said. "I expect a full-strength squad from the Cosmos this weekend."
FC Edmonton continues their push for the NASL postseason as they face the Cosmos, Oct. 11 at 3:00 p.m. MT. ONE World Sports will provide a live stream of the match free of charge to fans in both Canada and the United States.
The Eddies close out their season, Oct. 25 at Clarke Field against Jacksonville Armada FC. For tickets and more information regarding 2016 Early Bird Season ticket packages, please call 780.700.2600 or visit www.fcedmonton.com.
