Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide News Release
OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME- The Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England in conjunction with Raging Tide owners John and Pam Gallo has donated $5,000 to The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach for renovations to take place for the 2013 season.
Following the completion of the 2013 Raging Tide season, another $5,000 will be donated by both parties to go towards improvements of The Ballpark in 2014.
The Ballpark was home to the Maine Guides from 1984-1986 and the Maine Phillies from 1987-1988 (AAA Affiliates of the Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Phillies). After Baseball left Old Orchard Beach, The Ballpark was left unattended for several years until around 2008, when a local group of volunteers named "The Ballpark Group" helped restore the facility.
"The hours that the residents of Old Orchard Beach and its surrounding towns put in to restore The Ballpark was simply amazing and we cannot thank them enough, the Raging Tide would not be here today if it wasn't for them," said Raging Tide GM Taylor McCarthy.
"This initial, dedicated contribution of $5,000 is emblematic of how much the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, the Raging Tide and The Ballpark Commission, value the maintenance and up-keep of our town's family oriented Ballpark," said Ballpark Commission Chairman Jerome Plante. "Further, we hope this positive act encourages others throughout the state, to also assist."
