September 17, 2020 - United Soccer League One (USL1)
FC Tucson News Release
TUCSON, AZ -As FC Tucson pioneers a path forward for sports in Arizona, weekly COVID 19 testing remains a crucial part of maintaining a safe 2020 season. Due to a new partnership with MicroGen Diagnostics, weekly testing is now a reality for the team, implemented alongside sheltering in place, wearing masks, and other medical protocols.
"We are navigating the same questions during COVID 19 as any employer would, and it's forced us to be innovative and collaborative," said Amanda Powers, President of FC Tucson. "The reality is, we wouldn't have a season without testing, and without this partnership. MicroGen is the most critical aspect of our medical protocols."
The painless saliva tests are administered weekly, with accurate results within 24-28 hours. The MicroGenDX Laboratory utilizes Next Generation DNA Sequencing, the gold standard in molecular diagnostics to deliver microbial data to physicians nationwide. "We assist physicians with state of the art diagnostic testing that uses DNA technology to detect and identify infections," said MicroGenDX CEO Rick Martin. "Our convenient, accurate and quick turnaround COVID-19 tests are providing a way for thousands of people to return to work, travel and sports."
Powers said the club had to quickly develop an ethos about how they would address the COVID threat. "It's important to do what we can to help slow the spread and implement new standards as we participate in this new reality," said Powers.
This official partnership between FC Tucson and MicroGenDX provides the club with affordable, quality COVID 19 testing for the entire 2020 season.
In addition to testing, FC Tucson is adhering to strictly imposed USL medical protocols and Pima County Health Department and CDC guidelines for the continued health and safety of its players and staff.
