FC Montreal Adds Midfielder Jimmy-Shammar Sanon to Its Roster
July 4, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - FC Montreal announced on Monday that midfielder Jimmy-Shammar Sanon will join the Montreal Impact's USL team with an academy contract. He will be available for the game on Monday at 7:30 pm against Louisville City FC at Louisville Slugger Field.
The 19-year-old midfielder joined the Montreal Impact Academy in August 2012. In the 2015-16 USSDA season, Sanon played 22 games with the Impact U18, scoring nine times. His team reached the playoffs, but was eliminated in the first round.
"This promotion is well deserved for Jimmy, who was an important part of the success the U18 team has had in the last two years," said head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. "He is a really interesting player with his speed and his ability to eliminate the opponent in a 1-v-1 situation. He's the seventh player from the U18 team to convince us that he should be added to the USL team in 2016. David Choiniere graduated from the Academy and the USL team with the first team, getting an MLS contract, and now, Jimmy joins FC Montreal. It's a good example of the technical project and of the dynamic that is in place in the club."
The Canadian midfielder took part in camps with the U16 and U18 Canadian national team. Born in Montreal from Haitian parents, Sanon played with CS Monteuil before joining the Bleu-blanc-noir.
