FC Kansas City News Release
KANSAS CITY (July 7, 2016) - Two-time defending National Women's Soccer League champion FC Kansas City continues its midseason roadtrip with a Saturday match against top-ranked Portland Thorns FC at Providence Park. The game will start at 9:30 p.m. CT and will be streamed on the NWSL YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?vOe0khY3kg40. This is the second matchup between the two teams this season. The first ended in a 1-1 draw at Swope Soccer Village with goals from Kansas City's Shea Groom and Portland's Lindsey Horan. The Blues are coming off a 2-0 loss to the Washington Spirit, which ended a four-game unbeaten streak. Portland beat Sky Blue FC 2-1 last week and has won four in-a-row. The Thorns are the only undefeated team in the league with a 7-0-5 record. Although FC Kansas City has the second lowest goal total this season, the defense has kept them in contention for a playoff spot by allowing just nine goals in 11 matches. The Blues have four shutouts in that time and goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart recorded the NWSL's Save of the Week against Washington. Portland's backline has been just slightly stingier, allowing only seven goals to lead the NWSL. The offense ranks second with 18 goals.
