FC Gold Pride News Release

Hayward, CA (Aug. 13, 2010) - FC Gold Pridewill take its eight game unbeaten streak to Chicago this week for a match against the Red Stars, Sunday, August 22 at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL. The Pride is 12-3-4 in regular season competition and with a six point advantage in the standings, is the favorite to capture the WPS Regular Season Title.

In the fourth and final matchup with Chicago, the Pride looks to break the 1-1-1 season series stalemate and put an end to the team's three-game (271+ minute) scoreless drought. Despite the team's scoring drought, Pride forward and reigning WPS MVP Marta still leads the league in goals with 13. The last time the Pride visited Toyota Park, the Red Stars shut out the Pride 0-1, dealing the first place team one of only three losses suffered this season.

The Pride's league-leading defense is looking to build on the franchise-record three consecutive shutouts. The team has held opponents to a 0.74 goals against average, allowing only 14 goals in 19 games so far this season. Chicago has only managed to score one goal against the Pride in the three times the teams have met this season.

The Pride remains the only team to have earned a playoff berth and secured a home game during the postseason. Although Sunday's match is not a 'must win', it's crucial for the Bay Area team to once again find its stride as they approach the postseason. With the help of a few other teams the Pride could clinch the Regular Season Title as early as Sunday; the combination of a Boston loss/tie on Saturday, a Philadelphia loss and a Pride victory on Sunday will lock the Bay Area team into the top spot in the WPS Regular Season guaranteeing the team will host the WPS Championship Match on Sunday, September 26.

FC Gold Pride can clinch at least a spot as host of the WPS Super Semifinal by one of the following ways this weekend: 1. A Boston tie or loss on Saturday & a Pride win on Sunday; 2. A Boston loss on Saturday and a Pride tie on Sunday; 3. With a Philadelphia loss and a Pride win on Sunday.

Sunday's matchup between the Pride and Red Stars will be featured as the WPS Sunday Game of the Week on Fox Soccer Channel. Fans can also view the game via the online webcast or on their iPhone. Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 3 pm PT.
